Barbara Ann has a statewide presence, a 1.55 million voter base, maintains connections from 650 campaign trips and helping other Democrats and has a statewide organization. Over 2.87 million people turned out to vote in the 2008 Democratic Primary, setting a new record overall and tripling the Democratic Primary turnout in 1996, 2000 and 2004. 3.5 million Democrats voted in the 2008 General.

THE CHANGING TIDE

•  April 19, 2010 Rasmussen: “A new Rasmussen Reports telephone survey of likely Texas voters finds Perry with 48% support. His Democratic opponent, former Houston Mayor Bill White, picks up 44% of the vote, his best showing to date.”

•  March 8, 2010 The Dallas Morning News: "Sen. John Cornyn called Texas only “marginally” Republican.

•  Feb. 2010 Rasmussen: “Partisan Trends: Number of Unaffiliated Jumps to Highest Total Since 2007.” While 35% self identify as Democrats and 32% call themselves Republicans, self-identified independents are at 32.3%. That is the highest score for independents since summer of 2007.

•  Feb. 1, 2010 Gallup. Self-identified Democrats (40%) and Republicans (41%) in Texas.

•  Jan. 15, 2010 CNN: “The poll indicates that 2010 is shaping up to be a bad year for incumbents regardless of party.” 32% for an incumbent; 46% challenger; 20% neutral (CNN/Opinion Research Corporation)

•  August 15, 2009 New York Times: "The [Texas Republican] party lost all the state's major metropolitan counties in the presidential election last year, an ill omen for the future, and its majority in the Texas House has shrunk to a single seat."
